A series of novel 4-((arylsulfonyl)methyl)-2H-chromen-2-one has been synthesized by Pechmann condensation of ethyl 3-oxo-4-(arylsulfonyl)butanoate 7, various phenol derivatives using AlCl3 as a Lewis catalyst in the presence of Nitro benzene at 100 - 130⁰C. The prepared compounds were screened for anti-bacterial activity studies Many of the compounds shown remarkable anti-bacterial activity against the tested organisms.
